Eversheds Sutherland appoints Max van Drunen from DLA Piper as Real Estate Partner
Eversheds Sutherland has appointed Max van Drunen as Partner within its Real Estate Practice in the Netherlands, bringing significant transactional real estate experience to the firms growing practice in Europe.

Max’s arrival, on 1 April 2021, provides a significant boost to Eversheds Sutherland’s real estate team, bringing over 12 years of experience across development, investment and transactional work. Max advises clients across real estate transactions, funds, and big-ticket and high-value projects. His practice also includes significant experience advising real estate energy and infrastructure clients, particularly across the solar and wind renewable energy sub-sectors.

The real estate, energy and infrastructure, and industrials market in the Netherlands continues to grow, and Max will work alongside Natascha Geraedts, Partner, Planning; and David Jones, Partner, Real Estate, to build Eversheds Sutherland’s cross-border platform for advising real estate, energy and industrials clients in this growth market.

Max is fluent in his native Dutch, English and German languages, and brings experience in servicing clients between the Netherlands, UK and Germany. He joins from DLA Piper, where was appointed Legal Director in 2018. Max also is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University, where he teaches property and insolvency law. Max holds a PhD from Humboldt University Berlin and publishes frequently in the field of real estate law, including on renewable energy related topics.

Natascha Geraedts, said:

“Max’s appointment sees him bring significant experience to our increasingly active team. Max, coupled with the arrival of Wieger ten Hove in our Corporate practice in Amsterdam, means we now have a really strong platform with which to service clients on corporate real estate work. His skillset will be influential as we grow our presence in the Netherlands and across Europe, and I look forward to working with him.”

David Jones, said:

“We are really developing a strong and experienced real estate team, aligned to support key growth sectors. The Netherlands is an increasingly growing market, particularly supporting alternative real estate assets including renewables, logistics and datacentres. Max’s experience and specialisms dovetail perfectly with our strategy in that regard, and I am excited to work alongside Max, Natascha and other across Europe colleagues as we continue our upward trajectory.”

Max van Drunen, also commented:

“I am excited to join Eversheds Sutherland’s real estate team. My focus on the real estate, energy and infrastructure, and industrials market perfectly fits with the growth opportunities within and outside the Netherlands. The team is ambitious and has a collaborative mindset. I look forward to working with them.”

Max’s appointment follows other appointments to the partnership in the Netherlands, including Wieger ten Hove, in February 2021; and the arrival of Jeroen Hoekstra, Benjamin van Kessel and Elmer Veenman, and a 12-strong Commercial Team led by Thera Adam-van Straaten and Olaf van Haperen, all in 2019.
